Antique Brass Standish Inkwell Set- circa 1860s- Monogrammed CD-Risorgimento Period

This antique brass standish inkwell set dates to around 1860s and reflects the formal writing culture of the mid nineteenth century. Executed in solid brass and weighing approximately 2.76 kg, it is a substantial desk set that would have originally been intended for a well appointed study or private interior.

The set comprises a smooth oval tray with fitted elements including two inkwells, a sander, a wax seal stem, and a candle holder. The engraved monogram CD is consistently applied across the elements, indicating a unified design and suggesting a luxury commissioned piece rather than a later assembled set.

The design language, including the use of stylised lily motifs as terminals and the balanced oval form, aligns with decorative trends of the Risorgimento period, when classical references and symbolic ornament were widely incorporated into functional objects.

The surfaces show a natural variation in finish. Some elements retain their original aged patina, while others have been polished over time. This reflects the long history of use and preservation and gives the set a layered and authentic appearance.

Interior details, including the inkwell inserts and the candle holder residue, remain visible and underline the functional origin of the piece as part of a writing desk arrangement.

Today, the set stands as a decorative desk object with historical presence, suitable for placement in a study, library setting, or within interiors inspired by classical, academic, or period settings.
