Large Vintage Italian Onyx Four-Arm Candelabrum, Neoclassical Revival

Elevate your interior with this striking large-scale four-light onyx candelabrum, crafted in Italy during the 1950s–1960s. Standing an impressive 42 cm tall, the piece combines richly figured natural banded onyx with elaborate patinated brass, creating a dramatic contrast between stone and metal.

The onyx is particularly beautiful and changes considerably as the candelabrum is viewed from different angles. The broad circular base displays sweeping bands and cloud-like formations of sage and celadon green, cream, peach, amber and warm rust. The tall urn-shaped stem reveals everything from fine vertical banding in pale green, ivory, caramel and reddish brown to striking honey-coloured mineral formations and areas of softly translucent green onyx. A predominantly pale green onyx collar beneath the candle arms provides another beautiful contrast within the natural stone.

Designed in an elaborate Neoclassical Revival style, four scrolling arms extend from the central stem, each terminating in a finely detailed candle cup and scalloped bobeche. The tall openwork finial rises through the centre, giving the candelabrum its distinctive architectural silhouette. The patinated brass retains a beautifully aged dark finish that emphasises the depth and detail of the ornament.

Three small decorative feet raise the circular onyx base slightly from the surface, an elegant finishing detail that also enhances the sculptural quality of the piece. The combination of richly patterned stone, dark metalwork and symmetrical four-light form gives the candelabrum wonderful presence from every angle.

With its substantial proportions and weight of approximately 1.78 kg, it makes a dramatic centrepiece for a dining table, console or sideboard and is equally impressive displayed purely as a decorative object.

Condition
The vintage object is in its original condition and may show signs of use. The onyx displays natural variations in colour, veining and translucency. There is a small nick to the underside edge of the onyx base, which is hardly visible when the candelabrum is displayed. The patinated brass retains its aged dark finish with surface wear and oxidation consistent with age.
