Dating to the 1970s and attributed to Cenedese & Albarelli, Murano, the lamps combine an elegant neoclassical urn-like silhouette with sophisticated glassmaking techniques and expressive surface treatments characteristic of high-quality Murano production of the period.

The substantial blown glass bodies are formed in soft lavender cased glass with orchid-pink undertones and a beautiful pearly, opalescent lustre. Their colour is highly responsive to light: depending on the direction, intensity and temperature of the surrounding light, the surface can move through lavender, lilac, mauve and orchid-pink tones. The lustrous finish reflects light differently across the curved glass bodies, meaning individual areas may appear lighter, deeper or more silvery in photographs.

When illuminated from within, the colour transforms dramatically, glowing in luminous orchid pink and blush rose while retaining cooler lavender and lilac nuances. This changing interaction between colour, lustre and light is one of the most distinctive characteristics of the pair.

Each lamp is distinguished by a sculptural ribbed clear glass ring suspended from an applied clear glass boss with golden detailing within the glass. The transparency of these elements provides a beautiful contrast to the softly coloured cased glass bodies.

One of the most compelling features of the pair is their double-lit construction. In addition to the upper light source intended to illuminate a lampshade, a separate internal light illuminates each Murano glass body from within. When switched on, the entire vessel becomes part of the lighting composition, revealing the depth, tonal variation and translucency of the glass and creating a wonderfully atmospheric glow.

The lamps stand on dark circular moulded bases, providing a restrained architectural foundation beneath the sculptural glass bodies.

Their matched construction, sophisticated colour palette and dramatic transformation when illuminated make this pair particularly suited to a console, sideboard, bedroom or living space, where they can be appreciated both as functional lighting and as sculptural examples of 1970s Italian art glass.

Condition
