Large Fused Glass Pond Platter | Abstract Aquatic Impressionist Art, Copper Inclusions

Like looking down into a tranquil pond, this large handmade studio art glass platter transforms layers of teal, turquoise, moss green and warm amber into an abstract Impressionist waterscape. Floating across the composition, pink floral forms first appear as delicate pond flowers resting on the surface of the water. Viewed from another angle, however, the composition seems to transform: the same forms begin to resemble small aquatic creatures moving through the water, giving the piece a wonderfully unexpected and almost magical quality.

The piece was created using fused and slumped glass techniques, with layers of glass brought together through kiln firing before being shaped into its softly curved, organic form. Fine dark lines and copper foil inclusions are encapsulated within the glass, while scattered bubbles add further depth and enhance the impression of looking down into water.

The irregular outline and gently raised edges reinforce its individually handmade character. As a one-off piece of studio art glass, its individual composition cannot be exactly replicated, making this a truly unique work.

Created as a piece of studio glass art, the platter is particularly striking displayed on a coffee table, console or sideboard, or positioned where natural light can pass through the glass and illuminate the abstract pond composition.
